Often called “the Great Sea” (Numbers 34:6–7), the Mediterranean marked Israel’s western border. Its vast expanse symbolized both protection and possibility. From its ports, trade and cultural exchange spread across nations.
In the New Testament, the Mediterranean became the stage for Paul’s missionary journeys (Acts 27:1–2). Though storms raged, God’s plan carried the gospel westward. The Great Sea reminds us that God sets boundaries for His people while opening doors for His mission.
