The Jordan River runs like a lifeline through the land of Israel, yet its spiritual significance flows even deeper. It was at the Jordan that God stopped the waters so Israel could cross on dry ground into the Promised Land (Joshua 3:17). The river marked the end of wilderness wandering and the beginning of inheritance.
Centuries later, the Jordan became the scene of another great moment: the baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13–17). As He came up from the water, the Spirit descended, and the Father’s voice declared, “This is My beloved Son.”
The Jordan reminds us that God brings His people through transitions—out of bondage, through wilderness, and into promise. For the believer, it symbolizes dying to the old life and rising to new life in Christ.
